Impact

At Brotherhood Aged Care we do things differently. We take the time to get to know and understand you. We work with you in identifying your needs and aspirations, and create a plan that supports you in remaining happy, healthy and safe, whether that’s at home, or through one of our other services.

Hear how Brotherhood Aged Care has made a difference in the lives of some of our many clients:

Wilma - Home Care client

‘I was in and out of hospital and one day I came home and there wasn’t any food in the fridge. Because I’m vision impaired, I couldn’t even go down the street to buy some’, Wilma recalls.

‘Everything changed when I met Michelle. Instead of sitting here, brooding and asking myself what will I do, I know there are people I can depend on.’

Wilma has a daughter on whom she used to rely for support, but is now busy raising her own family. Wilma became increasingly reluctant to contact her for help, knowing how hard it was for her.

Wilma has been receiving support in her home with the guidance and companionship of Client Advisor, Michelle, since 2009. Wilma asserts it has been a life-enhancing relationship and has eased much of the pressure on Wilma and her family.

Margaret and Ian - Day and overnight respite

Ian was a maths teacher who hadn’t been long retired when he had a brain haemorrhage. Margaret, Ian’s wife of 43 years, was reluctant to place Ian in a nursing home and instead brought him home to see what she could do at home herself.

Not long after returning home Margaret found out about Brotherhood Aged Care day and overnight respite services. Ian now attends the services from 9am to 5pm three days a week and Margaret states ‘they’ve been the best support. Some days they would pick him up from my work. That was pretty amazing.’

Randall - Home Care client

Randall was the carer for his mother for many years before reaching out to ask for help when it became too much.

Randall now not only has support for his mother, but also for himself. Brotherhood Aged Care offers support when he doesn’t know who to turn to, even if it is just having someone to talk to.

‘I knew I could rely on them to talk things out with. I don’t know where we would be without them or what would have happened. That’s what I was scared of – that was half my anxiety,’ says Randall.

Maria, In-home support client

GREAT FEEDBACK WE GET

‘I owe a lot to Alice (Client Advisor) She suggests things such as the Singing for Wellness program and I always say no at first. Then I think on it and realise that she is right, it is good for me to have a break too. I’m a juggler you see, I juggle caring for husband, the gardening, my handcrafted rug and seeing my friends. These lessons make me appreciate my free time’

Alison, In-home support client and carer
