We understand that continuing to live at home will help you to maintain independence, choice and quality of life. Our experienced team can explain how Home Care Services can be funded and guide you through the process of getting started.

At BSL, we work with people to identify and develop their strengths.  Care is more than just what a person needs.  It is about what we can do to support a person to maintain or regain fulfilment, maximise safety and foster independence.  Our case managers work closely with clients to identify their care needs and meet those care needs flexibly as they change.

How it works

If you’re new to Aged Care services, it can be hard to know where to start. Our friendly team is here to:

  • Explain your options
  • Assist with applying for government funding or answer any questions you might have about Home Care Packages or other forms of government funding
  • Take you through our fees and hourly rates so that you can understand how we compare.

Options for funding your home care services include two main funding programs Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Home Care Packages (HCP). There is also private funding. Private funding can be a great solution whilst waiting for government funding, if you haven’t qualified for funding or simply want more services than you have been allocated.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) can help you access subsidised entry-level support services to live independently and safely at home. This program is recommended to those who need one or two services, or while waiting for Home Care Package funding.

You can apply for this programme only through My Aged Care or by calling 1800 200 422.

Home Care Packages are a government funded program designed to support older people to live at home independently by providing Home Care services. Services range from personal services, support services and clinical care all designed to assists with everyday living and optimise wellbeing.

Once you have been assigned Home Care Package we will work with you to create a plan that suits your needs. To find out whether you are eligible for a Home Care Package, you need to call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. To be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme or the Home Care Package you must meet some needs and age requirements that check:

  • How much assistance you need with everyday tasks 
  • That you are 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people).

Self-funding services can be a great solution whilst waiting for government funding, if you haven’t qualified for funding or simply want more services than you have been allocated. If you need services immediately you could consider privately funding your home care. Although you won’t receive a rebate, you’ll have access to all our high-quality services without the hassle of waiting lists.

Private funding can also be used to top up your package or government funding with additional privately funded services.

Our staff come from a range of multicultural backgrounds and can assist with communication needs and service to suit your lifestyle and language. We also have information available in the following languages and can arrange interpreting services if required, even if your language is not listed.

BSL is committed to ensuring each client receives the highest quality care and support. To maximise choice and flexibility we maintain agreements with reputable agencies that provide support services. These agencies adhere to the Aged Care Quality Standards which requires staff to be appropriately qualified, police checked and maintain relevant insurance, health and safety practices and exercise best practice governance.

Case Management

BSL case managers are an experienced multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals including nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and psychologists. This diverse range of skills and expertise ensures that your case manager will be a confident advocate for you in the aged and health care systems and well placed to oversee your care and liaise with service providers.  Your BSL case manager will work with you to build a trusting and cooperative relationship so that together you are able to identify your care needs and create a supportive care plan to meet those needs. Working collaboratively, you will design and coordinate care that centres around your choices, preferences and values to achieve the best possible outcomes for you.

Community Connection

Supporting you in getting out and about to stay connected. From social clubs and outings to interesting hobbies and pastimes your Home Care Package can enable you to pursue things that are meaningful to you. Staying connected to the community is integral to maintaining physical and mental wellbeing. If you’re feeling isolated or lonely, our team can check-in on you regularly to offer companionship and make sure you’re well. Some of the options include:

  • Attend a group outing
  • Visiting your local park, gardens or beach
  • Visiting your friends and family
  • Going out for a meal with friends
  • Joining a social group
  • Joining a class or course
  • Getting to an appointment
  • Day trips

Diet and Nutrition

Assistance with meal preparation and one-on-one support to increase confidence and skills with cooking. We also provide access to a wide variety of meal delivery services. Support with individual dietary needs required by health, cultural, religious or other reasons is also available.

Domestic Assistance

Get the support you need around your home to keep it just the way you like it.

Some of the everyday tasks we can assists with are:

  • Washing, ironing, mopping or vacuuming.
  • Changing the sheets, folding and putting your clothes away or assisting with odd jobs.
  • House cleaning to help keep essential living areas tidy and safe.
  • Shopping – flexible shopping options such as a support worker shopping with you, going to the shops while you stay at home or providing assistance with organising online shopping and home delivery.
  • Sorting and organising – we can help you organise your home to maximise safety and comfort.

Equipment and Home Modifications

Access to equipment and technologies to make your home and life safer and more enjoyable.
Purchasing or leasing equipment such as wheelchairs, shower chairs, electric beds, hoists and other items. Assistance with paying for home modifications such as ramps, banisters and handrails for safety and independence around the house.

Health Services

We can provide support by a range of specialised health care or therapeutic services to keep fit and well at home such as:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Podiatry
  • Audiologists
  • Counsellors and psychologists
  • Dietitians
  • Chiropractic Services
  • Osteotherapists
  • Optometrists
  • Speech Therapists
  • Remedial massage

House and Garden

Get a helping hand with light gardening or home and garden maintenance.

Home and garden services available include:

  • Assistance with home maintenance tasks required for functional safety, like changing smoke alarm batteries, window cleaning, gutter cleaning and cleaning ceiling fans.
  • Light gardening to help to keep your garden manageable and safe.
  • Safety and security – provision of a personal alarm and/or key safe for use in the case of an emergency to maximise your security and peace of mind.

In Home Nursing

Registered nursing care in your own home. Our nurses and personal carers can provide you with pre and post surgery care, along with general nursing assistance such as:

  • Wound care
  • Medication management
  • Pain management
  • Diabetes management
  • Clinical assessment.

Personal Care

Maintain your personal hygiene and grooming standards so you can feel your best. We can assist with:

  • Showering and dressing
  • Grooming
  • Going to the toilet
  • Continence management.
