What is Support at Home?
Discover the support available to help you live confidently
Support at Home is the new Australian Government program that started on 1 November 2025. It is designed to make getting help at home simpler and fairer, so you can continue living independently, safely, and with dignity.
The program brings together Home Care Packages (HCPs) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) into one easy-to-manage system, offering a mix of services, from everyday help to clinical and short-term recovery support, all tailored to your needs.
When you choose the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL), a dedicated Care Partner works alongside you to plan, coordinate, and review your services, ensuring your support truly improves your wellbeing and independence.
Support and services you can access
Support at Home covers a wide range of services that can be adjusted as your needs evolve. These may include:
- personal or clinical care
- help with meals, shopping, and household tasks
- transport and community connection
- allied health and rehabilitation services
- equipment, technology, and home modifications for safety and independence
- short-term restorative or end-of-life care
Your BSL Care Partner will help you understand your options and work with you to ensure your funding is used effectively to support your wellbeing and independence.

A short summary of the upcoming changes to your home care support.
What makes Support at Home different
Support at Home addresses the challenges many people experienced with the previous Home Care Package (HCP) system. It introduces a simpler, fairer and more transparent way to access the support you need, without the confusion or long waits.
One streamlined system
Under HCP, there were separate programs for different types of care. Support at Home combines these into one easy system, so you don’t have to navigate multiple applications or providers.
Quarterly budgets, not yearly
Instead of waiting for an annual review, your budget will refresh every three months. This makes it easier to plan ahead and adjust your services as your needs change.
Eight funding levels
Support at Home offers eight levels of funding (around $11,000 – $78,000 a year), giving more flexibility and better alignment with your individual needs — compared to the four levels under HCP.
Changes to care management fees
The Support at Home program introduces a 10% cap on care management fees as part of the new funding and service structure.
Short-term care when you need it most
Support at Home offers new short-term programs for recovery, home safety, and end-of-life care, giving you timely, tailored support when you need it most.
Government-set price caps (from July 2026)
The new program includes set pricing for services, providing a clear structure for how care is funded and delivered.
Services available under Support at Home
The new Support at Home program makes it easier for you to get the right support to live well and independently in your own home.
Whether you’d like a hand with everyday tasks, services that keep you active and connected, or support to manage your health, the program brings together a wide range of services and supports designed around you.

End-of-life care
When every moment matters, feeling at home can mean everything. Support at Home offers gentle, respectful care that helps you remain where you feel most yourself – in your own home, close to the people and things you love. Funding of up to $25,000, is available, with services for up to 16 weeks giving you and your loved ones practical support and peace of mind.
Assistive technology and home modifications
